Thieves have broken into Oldham Foodbank stealing electronic equipment as well as cash and food.

Manager, Lisa Leunig, said: “It was devastating to come in and see what happened, so heart wrenching for us. They had taken out a window in the back to get in.”

Around £200 that was donated before Christmas was taken as well as a hard drive and four tablets which are used to give fuel vouchers. Big tubs of chocolate and tins of coffee were also taken. The culprits left a path of destruction in their wake destroying the filing cabinet and breaking into drawers.

Lisa said: “It’s disgusting. The sheer destruction they left behind is disgusting. That money would have been used for when we started getting low on stock over the Christmas period. It has also meant we have not been able to give fuel vouchers to our clients because that is what we used the tablets for. It has stopped us from helping families today.”

Although they could not give out fuel vouchers, the foodbank still opened its doors today and helped 31 families.

Lisa said: “We opened because we didn’t want to let them beat us. They weren’t going to put us down and we have actually had the busiest day we have had in a long time so I am really glad we did.”
