Pupils from Alexandra Park Junior School have been learning about World War One just in time for Remembrance Sunday.

A special assembly was held which included singing the school’s Remembrance song then pupils split off in their classes to take part in a range of different Remembrance activities. This included making their own poppies, researching a soldier to find out what their lives were like, reading Flanders Fields to learn about John McCrae and wreath making.

Other classes took part in the BBC Live Lesson writing Haiku’s about the war.

PHSE Co-ordinator, Samantha Nicholson Hickling: “We were proud of all the children, they took it very seriously. They were really respectful and sang beautifully. My Great Great Uncle served and died in Dunkirk and seeing the pupils learn about Remembrance makes me really proud.”
