EFL League Two

Swindon Town 0-0 Oldham Athletic

Oldham extended their unbeaten league run to three matches with a goalless stalemate at Swindon Town.

Frankie Bunn’s side were held to a draw at the County Ground, though it could have been so much more for Latics had Matt Taylor not cynically fouled Christopher Missilou when through on goal in the 95th minute. The former West Ham and Bolton midfielder was shown a straight red card for his troubles.

The result left Oldham in sixth spot ahead of Tuesday’s visit to 14th place Mansfield Town.

Following the game, Bunn took aim at the match officials but maintained that a point away from home is a step in the right direction. They’ve missed a penalty in the first half from our wide freekick, the lads blatantly handballed it, so we’ve had a look at that on the video and it looks a penalty” said Bunn.

“I’m happy with the result because this is a tough place to come, obviously we’re greedy and we always want more, and we can always get better.

“However, they’re positives to take, it’s a clean sheet away from home and a point which you never know, it could become useful as the season goes on.”

Swindon, who entered the game on the back of a 3-0 victory at Yeovil Town, came closest to scoring in the early stages but Elijah Adebayo fired wide.

Dan Gardner almost put Oldham ahead shortly after, but his free-kick was well saved by Luke McCormick.

Chris O’Grady also had a chance to put Latics in front, but the veteran striker had his effort deflected wide, before Rob Hunt miskewed his effort after McCormick lacked the power on a clearing punch.

Latics were the better side in the second-half and came close through Ishmael Miller and Gardner, and with virtually the last piece of meaningful action Missilou was recklessly brought down when breaking on goal, leaving the referee with no alternative but to dismiss Taylor in the process.
