Avro midfielder Louis Potts believes the squad has what it takes to be challenging for a second promotion.

After clinching the Manchester Premier Division title last season, Avro have hit the ground running and proudly sit at the top of the North West Counties First Division North, having won seven and lost just once in their opening eight games.

Potts, who was instrumental in helping the club to a league and cup double last season, scored twice from the penalty spot in last weekend’s 2-0 victory at Atherton LR.

He is now the clubs joint-leading scorer with five goals this season, alongside striker Mike Norton, who joined the club over summer after developing a strong reputation in the non-league scene with Curzon Ashton and FC United amongst others. Potts is happy with his start and believes the foundations are in place embark on another successful campaign. Speaking to Reporter Sport, he said: “It’s always good to get on the scoresheet, especially in a division higher, as it breeds confidence and you can only get better as a player.

“There’s always belief at Avro but we are just taking it game by game at the moment. It’s only early and we just focus on the up and coming games. The mood around the dressing room is the same as last year; everyone is loving playing at the club, even the new signings who have settled in really well. It’s like they’ve been with us throughout the journey and the atmosphere is fantastic.”

Potts, who played at Bolton Wanderers as a youngster, is hoping for a repeat of last season’s winning formula, which saw his side fall to just two defeats in 28 games.

He is, however, under no illusion that achieving back-to-back promotions will be a stroll in the park. He added: “There are no easy games in this division, but I think our success has been down to the way we play and the pre-season we had. We were able to prepare for anything that was thrown in front of us, and the opening eight results reflect that.”

Avro will be hoping to maintain their grip at the top-of-the-table this weekend with a home clash against Lower Breck, who sit ninth in the table and have the joint-best defensive record in the league having conceded five goals.
