This year’s Saddleworth Summer Show went down a success and included Wellifest, their first music festival which kicked off the show.

Wellifest included a mix of local bands and tribute acts, Lionel Richie, Britney Spears and Boy George. Local bands included A Band Called Jack, Ok Broken and Blackballed. The festival brought in around 350 people and will be brought back next year.

Chair of the Saddleworth Show, Frank Bolger, said: “It was our first attempt at a music festival and it was fabulous particularly from a community standpoint. People were up dancing, the weather was lovely and the acts went down really well.”

The Saddleworth Show, now including Wellifest, is held at Well-i-Hole Farm and organised by the Rotary Clubs of Saddleworth and Oldham Metro with funds raised going to charities and community projects.

This year saw around 5000 people attend over two days for attractions such as a dog show, pony rides, stone carving and Frank Rothwell’s steam driven Land Rover.

The ever-popular duck race was back along with Circus Sensible which proved very popular and the Tame Valley Vintage and Classic Car Club.

There were also stalls, community groups, food and music acts, many of which were from local young people. The Brazilian drumming band that made their way around the show also proved a hit.

Frank added: “The views were beautiful as always and there was such a wide range of activities for all ages, it went really well. We are still collating the amount raised on the day, but that will now go to local and rotary charities and good causes. The most important thing is that it really brought people together.”

Winners of the Duck Race are numbers 3196 (1st place-£250), 346 (2nd place-£100), 2913 (3rd place-£50).
